Timothy Bohan is a Research Assistant at Indigo Rock with an MSc in Coastal and Marine Management. His expertise spans algal science, seaweed production, Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA), GIS, marine resource management, and circular bioeconomy.
His work focuses on integrating macroalgae into IMTA and other aquaculture systems to improve nutrient recovery and environmental performance. He has practical experience cultivating Asparagopsis armata, from laboratory propagation and culture maintenance through to upscaling and system optimisation. His research also explores the use of macroalgae to capture nutrients from aquaculture effluents, alongside opportunities for biomass valorisation and biorefinery. By linking algal cultivation with aquaculture production, his work supports the development of more resource-efficient and circular aquaculture systems.
