Dr. Roderick van Roosmalen

Dr. Roderick van Roosmalen is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Indigo Rock Marine Research Centre (IRMRC). He holds a PhD in Biosystems and Food Engineering, with a background in microbial biotechnology in particular metabolic engineering.

Roderick's research focuses on advancing the circular bioeconomy through the sustainable utilization of seaweeds as feedstocks for the production of high-value bioproducts, including bioplastics and biochemicals. He is passionate about developing innovative bioprocesses that support the transition to a more sustainable and resource-efficient bio-based economy.

Within the AIMBio project, Roderick leads Task 2 and serves as Chair of the Project Technical Committee, contributing to the strategic and technical direction of the project. In addition to his research activities, he has extensive experience in proposal development, project management, technical reporting, and budget oversight, supporting the successful delivery of multidisciplinary research and innovation programmes.
